The Pequot Lakes Patriots boys’ basketball team defeated the visiting Sebeka Trojans 68-54 in non-conference play to close out the regular season on Friday, March 1.
Pequot Lakes, 11-15 overall, was seeded No. 4 and will host No. 5 Park Rapids in the opening round of the North Subsection 8AA tournament. That winner advances to face top-seeded Crosby-Ironton on Saturday, March 9, at Bemidji State University.
Patriots 68, Sebeka 54
On Friday, Jordan Redmond scored a career-high 32 points to lead Pequot Lakes to a win over the Trojans.
Redmond was one of five Patriot seniors who were introduced to the home crowd on senior night. The other seniors were Mike Ryan, Kevin Beltz, Wes Mumm and Sean Murray.
Redmond opened the game with the first two baskets while Mumm also tallied as Pequot Lakes assumed a 13-2 advantage. Brett Peterson made a pair of 3-point shots but Derek Lillquist answered with two for Sebeka to pull the Trojans within 31-24 at intermission.
Early in the second half, Beltz drilled a 3-point shot and Peterson added two more from beyond the arc as the Patriots led 44-34 with 11:50 left. Redmond then scored eight of the next nine points, and Peterson swished his fifth 3-pointer, but Pequot Lakes only led 56-44.
Redmond scored the last two baskets for Pequot Lakes to give his team a 68-50 lead before the Trojans answered with the final two baskets of the game to make it 68-54.
Brett Peterson finished with 15 points for the Patriots while Carlos Castro had 18 points to lead the visitors.
“(Sebeka) played a solid game against us,” said Pequot Lakes coach Garry Grewe, “but (Jordan) Redmond had a big game, and we got a much needed win going into the playoffs.”

On Tuesday, Feb. 26, Pequot Lakes committed 26 turnovers in a non-conference loss at the Eskomos. Casey Staniger scored 31 points to lead Esko, which improved to 21-4.
Jordan Redmond finished with 14 points while Travis Jacobson added 11 points for the Patriots.
Esko led 25-17 at intermission on way to their 11th win in the past 12 games. The difference came at the free-throw line as the Eskomos made 25 of 38 free throws while Pequot Lakes had just 11 attempts, although they made nine.
