The Classic at Madden’s championship golf course was recently ranked No. 24 on Golf Channel’s list of the Top 40 U.S. Public Courses.
The list was created by Golf Channel’s Matt Ginella based on the premise of playing one course for the rest of your life.
The Classic was designed in 1997 by Madden’s Golf Superintendent Scott Hoffmann. Its terrain offers a 60-foot elevation change between the high and low points, 56 of Ohio’s Best White Sand bunkers, water on 16 of the 18 holes and bentgrass tees, fairways and greens. Five sets of tees make The Classic a course for all skill levels.
“We’re extremely proud to have such an accessible and unique course like The Classic,” said Brian Thuringer, president of Madden’s on Gull Lake. “We built this course with a vision of providing a true championship-level experience unlike that of any other in the country and we have achieved just that.”
In its first season of play, The Classic was listed as one of the “Best New Upscale Public Courses to Play” by Golf Digest and currently ranks 33rd on the magazine’s list of “Best Public Courses in America.”
Golfweek has named The Classic the “Top Public Course in Minnesota” and in 2008, listed it as one of the “Best Courses You Can Play.”
