The Pine River-Backus Tigers girls’ basketball team earned their eighth straight win by defeating Crosby-Ironton Rangers 60-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
The Tigers were the first to score as Megan Felthous put in two points. C-I answered with two free throws, Tatum Sheley answered for PR-B with a 3-pointer, the Rangers put in two more points, and the Tigers added another two points by Autumn Ackerman to make the score 7-4 with 15 minutes left in the first half. Brittany Kelley put in four points for PR-B before C-I could score again to lengthen the Tigers’ lead 11-4. In the last 12 minutes of the first half both teams scored 22 points each to give PR-B the lead at half time 33-26. In the second half the Tigers were the first to score again as Ackerman put in two points with only 30 seconds off the clock.
PR-B went on to outscore the Rangers 27-17 in the second half to easily take the win. Kelley lead the Tigers with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. Sheley had 18 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Felthous finished with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Ackerman had six points, two rebounds, two assists and one block. Kendra Brasel had two points, four rebounds and three assists. Journee Howard had two points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
The Tigers, 12-2 overall, are scheduled to host Upsala on Thursday, Jan. 31, and travel to Clearbrook-Gonvic on Friday, Feb. 1.
