The Pequot Lakes Revolution dance team placed second in both high kick and jazz in the Northern Lights Conference championship Friday, Jan. 18.
The Revolution followed the team from Aitkin in both categories. Crosby-Ironton was third for both dances, and Pierz placed fourth.
The team from Pine River-Backus was unable to attend the meet because of illness.
The Revolution’s two second-place finishes, coupled with the second-place finishes in both of the prior conference meets this season, were enough to net the girls second place in the conference standings, behind Aitkin.
All-Conference dancers for the Revolution were seniors Mariah Anderson, Taylor Stiller and Sierra Zeidler, and junior Khloe Weiwel.
The junior varsity Revolution finished in fifth place for high kick, behind Aitkin Black, Pierz, Aitkin Red and Crosby.
They earned fourth place with their jazz performance, after Aitkin Black, Pierz and Aitkin Red, and in front of Crosby.
Totino Grace Invitational
On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Revolution traveled to Fridley to compete in their final regular season competition, the Totino Grace Invitational. Facing a tough field of top AA teams, the Revolution ended the day with seventh-place finishes in both high kick and jazz.
“This is one of the biggest AA competitions of the season,” said Coach Amber Peterson, “so it was a nice one to end with before sections. We made significant choreography changes for this weekend to help improve our scores, and we were pleased with the results.”
The junior varsity Revolution, competing for the final time this season, earned a sixth-place finish in high kick and an eighth-place finish in jazz.
“Today was a beautiful day on the dance floor,“ said JV coach Jen Dingman. “The girls really left it all on the dance floor with their best performances of the season. We really couldn’t ask for a better day. There’s always room for improvement, but today they were spectacular.
“We saw improvement of scores all season, in all categories, and made improvements after each competition based on how the judges were scoring us. All of the hard work, sweat, and tears paid off well for the JV girls,” she said. “They learned a lot about themselves this season, and know what to work on for next season. As first time coaches, Alli and I leaned a lot as well. We are already preparing and planning for next year, coming up with new ideas for choreography.”
Up next for the Revolution is the Section 4AA Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Sartell High School, where the top three teams in both the high kick and jazz categories will advance to the state tournament.
