The Pequot Lakes junior varsity boys’ basketball team cruised past Wadena-Deer Creek 59-19 on Friday, Jan. 18.
The Patriots trailed 2-0 early, but went on a 27-0 run to build a commanding lead. Pequot Lakes led 36-6 at intermission.
Jack Kreitz led the Patriots with 12 points, Connor Davich added 11, C.J. Borleis 10, Hunter Larson nine, Lucas Mumm eight, Brandon Hehir seven and Erik Elverum two.
PL freshmen boys top C-I
The Pequot Lakes freshmen boys’ basketball team defeated the Crosby-Ironton Rangers 47-37 on Tuesday, Jan, 8, but lost to the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks 55-30 on Thursday, Jan. 10.
The Patriots led the Rangers 23-13 at the half. Both Josh Buell and Cody Huss each had 15 points while Connor Dale had nine, Hunter Goerges four, and Jordan Oaks and Jack Harguth each had two.
Against Grand Rapids, Pequot Lakes fell behind 28-19 at intermission and were unable to bounce back.
Buell finished with 13 points, Gage Westlund added nine, and Goerges and Huss each had four.
JV girls lose to Cardinals
The visiting Pequot Lakes junior varsity girls’ basketball team lost to the Staples-Motley Cardinals 51-47 on Thursday, Jan. 17.
The Patriots overcame an early 6-2 deficit with a 13-0 run. The Patriots later enjoyed a 12-0 run for a 27-13 advantage. But S-M closed the first half with an 11-0 run to pull to within 27-24 at intermission.
The Cardinals rallied to tie it 42-42 late in the second half, and then scored nine of the final 14 points to win. Jessica Faacks led the Patriots with 14 points, Kelsey Hart added 12, Laura Squires had seven, Caitlin Carkhuff five, Emilee Buell added four, Barb Miller three and Morgan Lohmiller two. Kelsey Zetah scored 20 points to spark S-M.
