The Pequot Lakes Patriots lost to Wadena-Deer Creek 58-47 in the third-place game of the Wolfpack girls’ basketball invitational at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley High School on Saturday, Dec. 29.
The Patriots opened the tournament with an 84-47 win over Sebeka. Pequot Lakes then lost to Parkers Prairie 80-60 in the semifinals. Parkers Prairie eventually beat Frazee to win the tournament title.
The Patriots, 7-4 overall after suffering their third loss in four games, are scheduled to next host Perham in a non-conference game at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3.

In the third-place game on Saturday, Pequot Lakes trailed 30-12 at intermission on way to a loss to the Mid-State Conference rival Wolverines, who improve to 7-4 overall.
Miller paced the Patriots with 16 points, giving her 57 for the tournament. Miller and teammate Vanessa Lane, who had 46 points in three games, both made the all-tournament team.
Pequot Lakes enjoyed an early lead but grabbed the lead for good at 10-8 on a basket by Caitlin Volkmann, who fnished with a game-high 19 points.
“We played terrible at the start as we couldn’t make a layup, and had a lot of turnovers,” said Patriots coach Jon Dale. “We tried everything, but we couldn’t get anything going.”
The Patriots made numerous turnovers and missed several close shots in the first half. Pequot Lakes did improve with 35 points in the second half.
“We did trim the lead and got within 12 points in the middle of the second half, but (W-DC) hit a couple big shots to quickly push the lead back to about 20 points. I think we just ran out of gas.”

Jessica Kreitz netted 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Pequot Lakes fell to the Panthers in the Wolfpack semifinals on Friday.
Parkers Prairie, which is 8-0 overall and ranked No. 8 in Class A, shot 70 percent from the field and was paced by Madison Dorn with 33 points.
Miller scored 19 points while Lane added 12 points as the Patriots shot 51 percent from the floor.
Pequot Lakes failed to avenge last year’s loss to the Panthers when they were edged 79-65 in the championship game.
Parkers Prairie jumped to a 5-0 lead and never looked back as they built a 25-12 lead.

Vanessa Lane scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Pequot Lakes routed the Trojans in the opening round of the Wolfpack Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 27.
The Patriots, who scored 55 points in the first half, grabbed an early 17-6 lead and never looked back. Pequot Lakes built an 82-35 lead midway through the second half when the reserves came in the game. Morgan Lohmiller scored her first varsity points for the Patriots with a long basket.
