The Northern Lakes girls’ hockey team has two losses in their first five games – and both times they fell by 2-1 scores against Moose Lake-Willow River. The Lightning lost the season opener to the Rebels on the road, and then fell to ML-WR at home on Thursday, Nov. 29.
Northern Lakes, 3-2 overall, is scheduled to host Fergus Falls in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Breezy Point Arena.

Northern Lakes tied it when Megan Snyder netted an unassisted goal in the first period.
ML-WR scored the winning goal with 3:01 remaining in the second period when Andrea Youngberg made it 2-1.
“We came out ready to play in the first period, and we scored to get on the board early,” Northern Lakes coach Kristen Harsha said of Snyder’s tying goal. “It was a very physical game, and we played well on the penalty kill. Our girls should be proud of their efforts through the whole game.”
Northern Lakes did enjoy a 38-27 edge in shots, but senior Kaitlyn Green made 37 saves to earn the win. Losing goaltender Kat Jensen recorded 25 saves.
The Northern Lakes junior varsity team won 6-0 as Lexi Danielson had two goals and two assists. Goaltenders Madison Galligan and Hailey Deutsch combined for six saves.

Northern Lakes had one of the most lopsided victories in program history as they blanked Morris-Benson in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
The Lightning won with three goals in the opening period and four in the middle session for a 7-0 lead.
Nine different players scored for the Lightning. Snyder and Stephanie DeGrote had two assists.
“The girls came out strong against Morris-Benson,” Harsha said. “It was a good win against a young team. Our girls never let off the gas until the final buzzer.”
Goaltenders Hailey Dutsch and Madison Galligan combined for 10 saves to earn the shutout. Northern Lakes finished with 41 shots on goal as Shianne Wold had 32 saves.
