Honoring our country and veterans

Posted: October 1, 2013 - 5:46pm

This past weekend, Grace United Methodist Church along with the Nisswa area “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” organization that provides services, food and financial support to veterans in need, honored all veterans with an inspiring and emotional patriotic choir concert. The ecumenical choir was superbly directed by Brad Wallace.

This was the second year that “Homeland” was presented and we again thank Pastor Ciesluk for giving our community the opportunity to partake in the cantata and have all the veterans attending proudly stand and be recognized when their service anthem was played with the Armed Forces Medley. It was a nice added touch to have Lew Gasink, a World War II Army Officer, recite the Gettysburg Address.

I would be remiss if I didn’t personally thank Mike Marcum, Pastor at Pequot Lakes Baptist Church and Vietnam Combat Veteran for again allowing us to hear his passion dealing with the ultimate sacrifice of men under his leadership. As he said, “Freedom isn’t free,” and we are reminded that when we see our flag in a parade or sing our National Anthem to remember those who gave their lives while in harms way to ensure our freedom.

From one old veteran thank you Pastor Dianne, Pastor Mike, Brad, and the wonderful choir for presenting the very emotional and moving event. I will never forget it.

John Repp,

Ideal Township
