I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate Bryan Pike on his appointment by Gov. Dayton to the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission. It’s great to see another talented person from our area appointed to a commission by the governor.
Bryan’s term on the commission starts at the end of the month and runs through Jan. 5, 2015. Bryan is a natural resource manager with Crow Wing County.
The Omnibus Legacy Bill the Legislature passed into law this year created the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission with the goal “to undertake system planning and provide recommendations to the legislature for grants funded by the Parks and Trails Fund to counties and cities outside the seven-county metropolitan area for parks and trails of regional significance.”
For a region like ours that has such great parks and trails — and relies on them for great outdoor fun and the tourism industry that boosts our economy — it’s even more important for someone from our area to represent us on the commission.
I’ve worked with Bryan on a number of issues and know that he will do an excellent job on this commission. Congratulations, Bryan!
