Watch Crosslake City Council

Posted: March 19, 2013 - 5:31pm

Previous letters have urged everyone to watch the Crosslake City Council. If you had done so, this is what you would have observed.

In two months the new council has seen the departure of the city administrator, the city attorney, a zoning planner and now the city clerk.

In addition, they are actively trying to eliminate the position of Community Development Director by having that function (including planning and zoning) turned over to Crow Wing County.

We have lost a significant portion of our city employees that have many years of experience in running a city efficiently and effectively. We have now hired a retired city administrator as a consultant to advise this city council on how a city should be staffed.

This is necessary because we have lost much of our city management talent and experience and the present city council has ZERO experience in running a city.

Four of the present city council members (excluding Steve Roe) have publicly expressed the opinion that the voters have given them a mandate to make major changes in Crosslake’s city government. In two months they have certainly accomplished that. I hope the voters who gave them this mandate are happy with the results. I certainly am not and by the comments at the public meetings, I am not alone in that opinion.

Originally I wrote these letters so voters would be aware of the council actions and maybe in two years would decide this was not the council for Crosslake. Now I am of the opinion that we as a city are in deep trouble and that instead of criticizing the actions of the council, we should pray for them, which we did last Sunday in our church.

I, therefore, do not intend to write any more letters to the editor.

Richard Dietz,

Crosslake
