Response to "Responses" by Don Bye

Response to 'Responses'

by Don Bye

I must start out by saying I had not read “Responses” in the Echo’s From the Left Hand Corner until someone asked me if I was going to respond to being called out by Mr. Bye.

I didn’t intend to write another letter to the editor on this issue, but I now feel compelled.

In Mr. Bye’s initial column, he stated that “he did not need a fully automatic assault rifle ...” I personally would love to own one, but since it is illegal without a federal tax stamp, I do not.

Mr. Bye insinuated that it was easy to get a fully automatic rifle and that new laws were necessary to quell the overriding demand for such weapons. “Fully Automatic Assault Rifle” is a term that the left has been using to stir up angst among the populous since the 1980s.

Again, the ownership of a “Fully Automatic Assault Rifle” has been illegal since the National Firearms Act of 1934. When you tell a lie long enough it becomes the truth. The use of the term Fully Automatic is what I have issue with; it was completely misleading and, in my opinion, that was the intent!

Don said he “did not know” a number of times in his “Responses” piece. Maybe he should be doing more background work and fact checking for his pieces instead of using false and misleading rhetoric in an attempt to sway opinion.

As to his comments concerning “express statements of the founders writing amendments and quotes of Washington, Mason and Jefferson,” a simple Google search using that exact quotation produced 49.1M results.

As I am limited to 300 words here and am at that limit now, I cannot list them all here. Don will have to look them up himself.

Words have meaning.

Nutty Nancy aint to

Nutty Nancy aint to Bright!

We already have somewhere between 200-300 million guns in this country: Adding to the last point, ever heard this old joke?

A drunk loses the keys to his house and is looking for them under a lamppost. A policeman comes over and asks what he’s doing.
“I’m looking for my keys” he says. “I lost them over there”.

The policeman looks puzzled. “Then why are you looking for them all the way over here?”

“Because the light is so much better”.

If there were no already existing guns in America, gun control could conceivably help keep weaponry out of the hands of criminals and mass murderers. However, in a nation that's already armed to the teeth, the next Adam Lanza, Jared Loughner, Tookie Williams or Mumia Abu-Jamal has already got his gun and new laws will only disarm law abiding Americans.

RWN evidently did not read the link he posted...

"He said his study suggests but doesn't prove that gun laws — or something else — led to fewer gun deaths."

By the author's own admission, the study does not prove anything!

"During the four-years studied, there were nearly 122,000 gun deaths, 60 percent of them suicides."

So the questions...?
What percentage decrease in suicide was seen in these states. Did the people that were taking their own life stop and not take their own life because a gun control law prevented it, or did they utilize some other means to end their life? If you take out the 60% suicide rate from the study, what does it do to the numbers?

When I took statistics in college so many years ago, the first day the instructors first words were "Statistics can say anything you want them to say as long as you use them correctly!" Simply stated, the link shares a bunch of gobbledygook from the Brady Bunch in an authoritative way to try to sway public and law maker opinion which may be a flat out lie. JUST AS I POINTED OUT in the response above. IF you say something long enough, it becomes fact...whether it is or not.

Words have meaning!

The gun study is just one more nail in the coffin for gun-nuts

Docbuell, it proves that gun deaths are higher in less-regulated states. It's simply one more compelling piece of evidence, not to mention the overwhelming evidence from other advanced countries with much stricter gun laws, that you gun-nuts are so clearly on the wrong side of the gun issue.

A rational conclusion, that most people can plainly see, is that we simply have too many guns in our gun-crazed culture. Gee. Maybe it's just too easy for ANYBODY to get guns. Gee.

Words have meaning, such as the words, "well-regulated."

"Flat out lie"? Now those words have a meaning: crazy, unhinged, irrational, extreme, etc.

Funny that the medical doctors involved in the study seem to be very concerned about the epidemic of gun deaths in this country, including gun-related suicides. Shouldn't chropractors also be concerned about that, and not blow it off.

Different path to the same goal

JP's comments about changing how guns and bought is code...do not miss read it. If we are to follow the line of thinking that all guns must be transferred through a licensed dealer then we will soon see that it is OK to allow for all guns to be registered. The NICS is supposed to (And I doubt very much that they do) destroy all information about the background checks that they perform so as not to develop a registry of gun owners and what they own. While not complete registration, the NICS is a tool that could very easily be implemented into a registration process in no time flat.

The problem with registration is that it is the first step to confiscation...and that my friends on both sides of the political spectrum is... the ultimate goal of this regime and its cohorts.

That old slippery slope argument could apply to anything

"Ya got trouble,
Right here in River city!
With a capital "T"
And that rhymes with "P"
And that stands for Pool."
And "P" rhymes with "G"
And that stands for Gun-grabbers...

Looks like Jackpine is right

Looks like we will now get the low hanging fruit legislation that will end the gunshow loophole, requiring background checks on all gun transactions, except maybe family members.

Banning high capacity magazines, soon.

CCW

Why is it that, the media only broadcasts the bad uses of firearms, and not the events where a firearm saved the lives of a would be victim(s) if it were not for the legal use/ownership of a gun? I for one will always carry a concealed side arm, even at places that display the stupid signs saying " the carrying of firearms are prohibited on these premises".

Justapatriot doesn't know what guns are used for

He doesn't know that citizens almost never need to use a gun to defend themselves or someone else. The odds that he is going to need to use his gun against a bad guy are probably as slim as being abducted by a UFO.

The odds are a lot higher that Justapatriotbeinjail, if he illegally carries his gun where it is prohibited.

Unless he is being threatened by someone or carrying valuable gems, it's hard to understand what motivates someone to feel the need to carry a gun everywhere he goes, including where it is illegal. It must either be extreme paranoia, compensating for low self-esteem, or some other personality disorder.

Why do people think they need to carry a gun?

I can understand why some women feel the need to carry, but it's hard to understand what motivates men.

I've had guns pointed at me in an armed robbery. I've been to Sturgis 6 times and Daytona Bike Week once. I've been to a bunch of biker rallies and events. I've been in places with notorious biker gangs. Bikers must be less threatening than those bad jackpines in Jackpineland, because I have NEVER BEEN IN A SITUATION WHEN I WISHED I WAS CARRYING A GUN.

And I sincerly doubt you were in any danger at Sturgis because Bikers are well know for compassion toward the handicapped.

On February 22, "Right Views"

On February 22, "Right Views" reported that a growing number of firearm companies have suspended the sale of guns to states, counties, cities and municipalities that restrict their citizens' rights to own them.

In just two weeks, the number of companies participating in what has been named the "Firearms Equality Movement," has more than tripled from 34 companies to 118.

Keep yer powder dry!

Words mean things

Again, the resident shill from the left just do not get the fact that it is not about NEED. It is about a right. We hear all the arguments, we use reason, we just don't get a left wing that understands... or do they???

I would contend they know exactly what they are doing and why. Do you???

I am sure they would defend the right of the "Artist" to throw a Crucifix into a jar of urine and call it art, because of the first amendment...???

Gun's are like parachutes... If you need one and don't have one, you won't likely need one ever again!

You gun-slingers don't know history

Over 100 years ago, many American cities and towns came up with ordinances against allowing gun-slingers, like you modern-day regressive gun-nuts, carrying their guns to town. It was an effort to be more civilized and, for the most part, it has been the norm of civilization for the past 100 or so years. Few regular citizens have carried guns since then, except lately with you paranoid, less civilized jackpine gun-slingers. But then you are far from regular citizens.

You've got to ask what psychologically motivates a regular guy to feel the need to carry a gun with him wherever he goes. It's a fricken personality disorder!

defend the criminal actions of the union thugs
