Snow sculpture judging questioned

Posted: February 19, 2013 - 5:32pm

Last weekend was the annual Winter Jubilee in Nisswa and as in the past years, I went to watch the parade and enjoy the snow sculptures. This year some things made me wonder.

I wonder if people know what goes into the making of such a sculpture.

I wonder if people know how difficult it is to work hour after hour in the cold weather.

I wonder if people know that one family has been doing snow sculptures every year of the 41 years of the jubilee.

I wonder if people know that this year this family put in 150 man hours constructing their masterpiece.

I wonder if people know that they spent $200 on paint to make it beautifully colorful.

I wonder if people know that at least three of them took a day off of work to dedicate to the sculpture.

I wonder if people know the total disregard some folks have of the sculptures by climbing on them.

I wonder if people know the large number of people that surrounded that sculpture to take pictures.

I wonder if people know how many times I heard this comment: “This is the THIRD-place winner?”

I wonder if people know exactly how these sculptures are judged (I surely do not).

I wonder if this dedicated family will be back next year in their same spot.

I wonder, I really, really wonder.

Betty Simenstad,

Nisswa

Oh the humanity!!!

You wonder....

I wonder if people know how many times I heard this comment: “This is the THIRD-place winner?”

Really?? That was a really dumb thing to write

I wonder if people know exactly how these sculptures are judged (I surely do not).

The best thing you wrote was (the last 4 words)!

I (me) wonder how long your broken spirit will take to heal after such a tragic ordeal. Can someone else win sometimes even though your local fav's spent a certain amount of money, took off some work, worked really hard, got really creative, bled, sweated and teared up year after year ever since disco was cool? and surely the 1st and 2nd place winners did none of the above?

Put a silk hat on a pig and teach him to speak french but at the end of the day....it'zstilla pig.

You know what would serve

You know what would serve them right just don't ever do this again. Make them suffer. Show them you can't be pushed around. Ruin their whole event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
