It’s time to begin again
Who is the second-class citizen?
The neighbor who lost his job and now has to apply for food stamps?
The neighbor who relies on the food shelf to feed his or her children?
Our brothers and sisters in the Native American community who can’t find jobs, can’t overcome poverty and alcoholism, who suffer from lack of education and opportunity?
Our brothers and sisters from all parts of the world who seek a better life under a fair and just democracy? Who seek the right to live their religion in peace?
There are no second-class citizens. There is only the human community, charged to love one another, and restart our democracy in its best traditions.
It is time to begin again.
