Curtis W. Johnson
Curtis W. Johnson, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, in Onamia, Minn., surrounded by his family.
Curt was born and raised in St. Peter, Minn. He raised his five children and lived in Brainerd, Minn., until recently.
Curt taught high school and coached athletics in Pine River, Minn., for 27 years. He enjoyed woodworking and construction, and inspired many students into the construction trade.
As an Eagle Scout, Curt enjoyed the outdoors. He loved camping, fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. He helped coach youth sports in Brainerd and took great pride in supporting his children and the community. Recently his passion became following his grandchildren and their activities.
We will remember his huge heart, big laugh and glowing smile. Curt’s pride in his family, his love for others and ease with making everyone smile will be greatly missed. He taught us perseverance, to understand empathy, and how to care for others.
Curt’s family wishes to thank the many caregivers who took an interest in Curt and cared for him with great compassion and pride. We especially want to thank the staff at Mille Lacs Hospital for their gentle care as he passed peacefully.
He will be deeply missed by his children, Jerr (Megan), Jason (Rachel), Jamie, Jennifer (Corey), Johnna; grandkids, Cole, J.P., Mataya, Brady, Jack, Bre, Colbie, Caden, Curtis; sister, Melanie; and stepbrothers, Bruce, Doug (Mary).
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, K. Wayne and Anna Mae Johnson; and stepmother, Evelyn Johnson.
