Judy Ann Humphrey-Metcalf

Judy Ann Metcalf, 69, passed away Thursday evening, Nov. 7, 2013, in Lawrence, Kan., surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born on March 1, 1944, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Emery and Phyllis Humphrey. She spent her grade school years in Pine River, Minn. Her family then moved to Mullen, Neb., where she graduated from high school. She received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Nebraska in 1970.
She taught in Nebraska and in various schools on the East Coast, completing her teaching career in Fairfax County, Va. After retiring she pioneered new teaching methods in Educational Kinesiology and Brain Gym. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, participating in her cohousing community and she will be missed by many.
A celebration of her life will be held at the 7 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2013, at Delaware Commons, 1218 Delaware St. in Lawrence, Kan. Details of a local celebration of her life will be posted at a future date.

She is survived by her two sons, Pete Boyer (Mona Russell), Will Boyer (Darla); grandchildren, Hailey, Jasmine, Avery and Drewe Boyer; brother, Gary (Joyce) Humphrey; and sisters, Carol (Larry) Pearson, Leiloni (Mike) Young; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by parents, Emery and Phyllis Humphrey; nephew, Mark Humphrey; both sets of grandparents; and a cousin.
