Gladys (Sally) Miller
Gladys (Sally) Miller of Manhattan Beach, Minn., passed away Aug. 15, 2013, at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, Minn.
Gladys Sahlmark was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Ludington, Mich., the daughter of Joseph and Esther Sahlmark. Gladys was an avid golfer. Her dad was the men’s champion of their golf club, and Gladys was the women’s club champion at age 14. After graduating from Ludington High School, she attended and graduated from Augustana School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill. Following graduation she did both hospital and industrial nursing.
She was married to Donald B. Miller Sr. on May 6, 1940. They lived in Ironwood, Mich., from 1944 to 1969 where they owned and operated the Nyberg-Miller Funeral Home. They retired in Crosslake, Minn., and lived there until 1983, when they moved to Manhattan Beach, Minn. She and her husband were members of the Crosslake Lutheran Church.
Gladys is survived by three sons, Dr. Donald B. Miller Jr. of Prescott, Ariz., Dr. Ronald G. Miller of Savannah, Ga., and Mark J. Miller of Savannah; one daughter, Debra Miller of Minneapolis, Minn.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Donald B. Miller Sr., two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, Minn. Family and friends were invited to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery.
