Eugene R. “Gene” Steward
Formerly of Crosslake
Eugene R. “Gene” Steward, 78, of Bloomington, formerly of Crosslake, Minn., and Burt, Iowa, passed away Feb. 8, 2013, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wilma; children, David (Jill), Dwight (Stacey), Neal (Lisa) and Paul (Jenny); 12 grandchildren; siblings, Doretta Abbas, Karen Bringman, Roger Steward, Perry Steward and Gary Abbas; many relatives and friends.
Gene served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War achieving the rank of Petty Class First Officer with four years of service. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and then began his 30-year career at UNISYS in Roseville, Minn. During that time he also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota and rose to the level of director of its Large-Scale Computer Development Group.
Memorials preferred to U of M Medical Foundation for Research for the study of Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia. (Due to severe allergies, please do not send flowers.)
Service were held Feb. 14 at Hillcrest Methodist Church, Bloomington. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Arrangements were with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes, Minn.
