Pine River-Backus Knowledge Bowl teams “Nous Lavons Avec L’Herissons” and “Jeg Vet Ikke” took 10th and 23rd at the most recent Round Robin event held Feb. 12 at Staples Motley High School.  

L’Herissons captured 10th place with 72.5 points and consisted of Meghan Wheeler, Isabel Lawrence, Erin Fisker and Trent Crimmins.  

Jake Shekta, Ashley Johnson, Liz Novak, Steven Bowen and Troy Fetter on Jeg ended the day in 23rd place with 48 points. Teams from Brainerd, Little Falls, Wadena-Deer Creek, Menahga and Sebeka also participated.

All fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders at Pine River-Backus Elementary School who made the honor roll for both first and second quarters enjoyed “Lunch with the Principal” last week on the stage in the Commons. Students were served their meals on fine china and had a special dessert prepared by Food Service Director Jill Blanchard and her staff. Students loved the royal treatment.

The Business and Industry Center at Central Lakes College, Brainerd, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, will offer an opportunity to prepare for taking the special class boiler exam.

Instruction will include boiler types, attendance requirements for heating boilers, safety issues and state boiler rules, application paperwork and test procedures.

The class fee of $99 includes all materials. Testing and application fee for licensure will be an additional fee for the student with the Department of Labor and Industry.

Pequot Lakes High School seniors experienced real world situations at the annual Reality Store on Friday, Feb. 15, where seniors learned firsthand what life will be like after graduation.

In the Reality Store experience, students choose their careers and a computer database randomly assigns them a marital status, income and number and age of children.

The students then visit booths throughout the gym staffed by local educational and business professionals who provide students what they need for their families.
