Two Central Lakes College instructors are nominated for Outstanding Educator awards bestowed each year by the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU).

Darci Goeden, Nursing, and Leon Dahlvang, Communication Art and Design, are now eligible for the Educator the Year award that recognizes superior teaching.

The pair was nominated by CLC President Larry Lundblad and will be among about two dozen MnSCU instructors recognized this spring at an award luncheon.

Pine River-Backus Elementary School students danced in their socks on Thursday, Feb. 28. By practicing the ROAR (Responsible, On-Task, Always Safe, Respectful) expectations, students earned enough Tiger Tickets to fill up the Tiger Ticket jar. All staff and students had a schoolwide Sock Hop to celebrate. Dances included “The Locomotion,” “The Chicken Dance” and the “Macarena.”

The Pine River-Backus Knowledge Bowl team competed in the third and final round robin event Monday, Feb. 25, against Aitkin, Staples-Motley, Crosby-Ironton, Royalton and Menahga at Staples-Motley High School.

Meghan Wheeler, Meg Stevenson, Trent Crimmins, Erin Fisker and Isabel Lawrence took third place as team Nous Lavons Avec L’Herissons. Jake Shetka, Troy Fetter and Ashley Johnson, as team Jeg Vet Ikke, took 19th.

Overall 26 teams competed in the meet.
