The Pine River-Backus JV speech team competed at the Blackduck “Speech Games” (inspired by “Hunger Games” books) tournament Feb. 3.
Samantha Maurer and Mitchell Wynn took home a third-place red ribbon for their duo interpretation of the play, “Thtick ‘Em Up!” by Barbara Lhota.
Claudina Williams became the school’s “tribute,” taking first place for her informational speech on illusions. She won a medal and a toy bow and arrow to help her in the arena during her next tournament.
Kate Berthold competed in Drama. Mikayla Sundlie and Lucy Schnoor competed in Dramatic Duo. Austin Makert and Trevor Birr competed in Humorous Interpretation. Cody Booth competed in Prose.

Berthold competed in Extemporaneous Reading. Wynn and Maurer competed in Dramatic Duo and took home a fourth-place ribbon for their interpretation of the play, “Thtick ‘em up!” by Barbara Lhota and Janet Milstein. Hanson competed in Serious Poetry and took home a fourth-place ribbon for her interpretation of the poem, “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan.
