Local resident Scott Pederson will present a photography workshop at the Pequot Lakes Library at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.

He’s been a professional photographer for 28 years and has worked with many companies in the marine and fishing industry, including Lund Boats, Crestliner Boats, Cajun Boats Mercury Motors, MotorGuide and The In-Fisherman, and in travel and tourism, including Northwest Territories Tourism, Saskatchewan Tourism and dozens of Canada and Minnesota lodges and resorts.

“I put an Argus 35mm rangefinder film camera around my neck in the fifth grade and it kind of stuck. I built a darkroom under the basement stairs in our home in the ninth grade and started a photography club in high school,” he said.

He went on to tech school and graduated in design and photography and then proceeded to college to earn a mass communication/photography degree.

For 30 plus years he’s had gainful employment in the fields of design and commercial art, printing, photography and publishing. He’s freelanced as a commercial photographer for 22 years. Pederson bought his first digital camera in 2005 and has fully entered the digital age.

In the workshop, Pederson will talk about cameras and lenses, the relationship of shutter speed and aperture, depth-of-field, light metering and lots of other photo subjects. It will cover the basics and beyond. Beginners will be comfortable and the somewhere-beyond-beginners may gain fresh insight into some familiar topics and some new knowledge as well.

“In any case you should become more at ease flipping your camera’s shooting mode to M. A whole world of photography is waiting in the mode I call ‘Other than Auto,’” Pederson said.

While not a requirement, bring your cameras, lenses and questions. This workshop is free and open to anyone interested.
