The Eagle View Elementary School second-grade Girl Scout Brownie Troop No. 347 participated in a basic First Aid for Teddy Bears course Thursday, Sept. 26. Presenters were Breezy Point police officer and paramedic Jason Rieber and Sgt. Brian Sandell.

Each girl brought a favorite doll or stuffed animal to be a patient at the presentation. The officers taught the girls how to properly take care of a cut, what information is needed when making an emergency phone call, how to wash your hands properly and how to stabilize an injured person (or in this case, a teddy bear) until help arrives.

North Memorial Ambulance Service arrived to take the girls on a tour of the ambulance. Eric Kueker, paramedic, and Jordan Amundson, EMT, showed the girls all the equipment they use to keep a patient stabilized until they are able to get them to a hospital.

Essentia Health donated mini first aid kits and ice packs to the girls so they can be prepared for any minor injury.

The girls not only earned their first aid patch, but they learned valuable life skills.

Girl Scout Troop 347 thanks Officer Rieber and Sgt. Sandell of the Breezy Point Police Department, Kevin Lee, Kueker and Amundson of North Memorial Ambulance Service and Miranda Anderson of Essentia Health for making this an amazing experience for the girls.
