Pine River-Backus Elementary School staff and students are off to a fabulous start! Our teachers have been hard at work establishing procedures and routines conducive to creating positive learning environments for our students and our support staff is busy providing the support needed for our teachers to enhance their classroom instruction.
One terrific program that is under way is our school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. The goal of PBIS is to instill and promote positive behaviors in our students throughout all areas of our school: classrooms, lunchroom, school bus, playground, hallways/locker areas, bathrooms, library, computer lab, arrival/dismissal time and during assemblies.
Our staff recognizes students showing Tiger Pride by hearing their ROAR. ROAR stands for being Responsible, On-task, Always safe, and Respectful. From our teachers to our custodians, and our bus drivers to our cooks, we all expect and encourage students to behave appropriately at all times.
Students showing their ROAR are able to earn “Tiger Tickets.” Their tickets are put into a jar where they can have a chance at earning certificates, prizes, a day with the teacher’s/principal’s chair, and many other great things.
We hold monthly ROAR Rallies for the entire school to recognize our wonderful students. Most importantly, our school is instilling a sense of pride in our youngest learners that they can carry with them as PR-B Tigers!
The research shows schools that have successfully implemented PBIS have seen a decrease in behavior referrals and an increase in positive behaviors. Ultimately, we hope that PBIS will also have a positive effect on our student achievement at PR-B.
If you would like to learn more about our PBIS expectations, visit our school website at www.prbschools.org. Click on the elementary school link, then “PBIS.”
The Tigers are off with a ROAR this year! We wish them all the best of luck during the 2013-14 school year.
We are proud to be PR-B!
