Children entering grades one through five will again have an opportunity this season to Explore Music! with educators and musicians from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. Alexander Pena is returning as director of the hands-on workshop scheduled for July 29 through Aug. 2 as part of the Lakes Area Music Festival. Joining Pena this season on the teaching staff will be Christine Shorter and Gavin Price.
Sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Washington Educational Services Building in Brainerd, followed by the opportunity to join an optional culminating performance with professional musicians on Sunday, Aug. 4 at a festival concert.
Explore Music! is sponsored by Community Education, Fun and Friends, and the Lakes Area Music Festival.
This year’s weeklong theme focuses on water music, which students will explore through orchestral sounds, singing, and composition. Guided improvisation will take place in dance and song and instrumentation.
Registration for Explore Music! is limited. Fee for the week is $65, which includes all instruction, a T-shirt and daily snack. To register, call community education at 218-454-6924.
