Every three years Head Start programs across the country receive an in-depth review from the Office of Head Start.
This review lasts five days and looks into every aspect of the program — child development, family service, health, special needs and mental health, professional development, fiscal and program management. Reviewers have proven to be specialists in their area and selected from around the country.
Seven specialists converged on the Bi-Cap Head Start program April 15-19. Reviewers observed home visits with families, completed CLASS assessments in Head Start classrooms, health and safety observations, and interviewed teachers, parents supervisors and management.
Every Bi-Cap Center or classroom was visited in Blackduck, Kelliher, Bemidji, Remer, Walker, Backus and Pillager.
The Bi-CAP Head Start and Early Head Start Programs completed the review in good standing. There were a few areas where small changes were addressed during the review. Reviewers were largely impressed and had much praise for the program, classrooms and staff.
Applications are being accepted for both Early Head Start (pregnant moms and families with children up to age 3) and Head Start (children must be 3 by Sept. 1, 2013). Space is limited. All families are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to income-eligible families.
