The theme of the Pine River American Legion’s poster contest was “What Would Make the World a Better Place,” which could include anything from anti-bullying to anti-drug to anti-pollution messages.
Pine River-Backus eighth-grade winners were: first, Mackenzie Rubitschung, who said she has always been against smoking and wanted to get the message out; second, Avery Cunningham; and third, Serena Macias.
Rubitschung’s poster moved on to the district level, but did not place there.
