Mother Nature may be making it difficult to start thinking of spring sports, but we are closer to the start of spring sports than the recent weather may suggest. Here is some information regarding spring sports that you may find helpful.
Spring athletes may turn in forms and pay fees at any time. Forms are available in the high school office or online. Fees may be paid online or in person in the Activities or Business offices. All forms and fees must be paid before the first day of practice.
Upon turning in all forms and paying fees, the athlete will receive a “white slip.” This is to be given to their coach indicating that they are ready to start practice.
The eligibility forms only need to be completed once each school year. Physicals are good for three years.
Fees need to be paid each season, and spring fees are $100 for grades 9-12 and $75 for grades 6-8.
There will not be a large group signup meeting. Each sport will have an organizational meeting before the season. Please check the website http://pequotlakes.k12.mn.us under “activities” and “spring sports” for updates.
Sixth-graders may participate in track/field and golf. There are no Wednesday practices for middle level athletes.
Coaches’ contact information will be posted on the Activities webpage under “spring sports.”
The opening dates and sites for indoor practices will be:
Softball (JV/varsity): March 11, high school gym before school.
Track and field (JV/varsity): March 11, high school and middle level gyms after school.
Golf (boys and girls grades 6-12): March 18, middle level gym before school on a rotating basis by gender. Contact coaches for specific schedules.
Baseball (JV/varsity): March 18, high school gym after school.
Mid-level baseball and softball: March 18, Eagle View after school on a rotating daily schedule. Contact coaches for specific schedules.
Mid-level track: optional practices with varsity starting March 11. First required practice is April 2.
The Minnesota State High School League may tell us when practice can officially start but the weather will dictate when the teams actually get outdoors and contests begin. There will no doubt be numerous weather-related changes during the spring season.
For this reason, I would encourage you to sign up for the “notify me” feature of our scheduling program if you have not already. Simply go to the school website, click on “activities,” then “sports schedules.” Once there, choose the “notify me” icon and follow the prompts. You will be able to set the system to remind you of when the contests you are interested in watching will take place and you will be notified any time I make a change to the schedule.
As we gear up for the winter tournament season and prepare for the spring season, I would like to encourage all of our spectators to “Let the players play, let the coaches coach, let the officials officiate and LET THE FANS BE POSITIVE!”
See you at the games!
