Pine River-Backus School participates with Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Pine River once a month.
Earlier in the school year, third-graders played bingo with the residents. During Christmas they sing carols.
Because of the cold and flu season, the Department of Health has discouraged visitors to the nursing home recently, so sixth-graders in Jenny Sether’s language arts classes decided to create a mosaic art wall hanging with a sticker calendar.
Area businesses Station 371, Barnum’s Auto Parts, Hanneken Insurance and Auto Value donated small calendars, and Tina Hanneken helped students with the project.
Residents’ rooms are small, so students made something functional and personal. Everyone can use a calendar, especially with artwork attached to it.
