High school students from both Pine River-Backus and Pequot Lakes Interact Clubs have been working to complete service projects within their two communities.
Both Interact Clubs are sponsored by the Central Lakes Rotary Club and are composed of students who support the programs of Rotary within their local communities and Internationally.
The Pine River-Backus Interactors have labeled several boxes of dictionaries that will be presented to third-grade students at Pine River-Backus Elementary, Eagle View Elementary, Crosslake Community and Nisswa Elementary schools.
In addition, they have raised funds to provide tuition for a high school student in Mexico, working in conjunction with the Club Rotario in Puerto Vallarta Sur.
The Interactors at Pequot Lakes High School have completed a three-mile section of highway cleanup in Jenkins, and they will help with the dictionary project.
Both Interact Clubs will participate in several other service projects this year, including working with senior citizens and visiting local nursing homes. Each Interact Club will also attend “Interact Morning” at Central Lakes Rotary and will be in full charge of the meeting for that day.
Students from both Interact Clubs will also be selected to attend Rotary Youth Leadership Camp (RYLA) at the University of Minnesota Crookston Campus in July 2013.
Central Lakes Rotary Club is committed in its mission to support the youth of our area communities, and Interact is just one way in which students can provide service to others and set an example using Rotary’s four-way test:
1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
