The Echo Publishing staff received four awards Thursday, Jan. 23, at the
Minnesota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest in Bloomington.
Awards included two first-place finishes for use of photography in the Pine River Journal and for Travis Grimler’s social issues story he wrote about a Pine River dog kennel; a second place for Best Use of Video for a News of the North video segment about Bean Hole Days in Pequot Lakes; and a third place for general reporting for the Pine River Journal.
Also, Pete Mohs, Echo Publishing publisher, was elected president of the Minnesota Newspaper Association board for 2014. Mohs has served on the board of directors since 2008.
Mohs is the 134th president in MNA’s history, but only the second from the Brainerd lakes area. After working for the Brainerd Dispatch for 21 years, Mohs became publisher of Echo Publishing in 2004.
