With the financial support of the Backus American Legion’s charitable gaming program, a mower manufacturer and DC’s Motor Sports and Small Engine of Backus, the community’s Evergreen Cemetery received a gift of a new Hustler commercial/industrial, zero-turn 54-inch mower.

The Legion donated $8,500, the Hustler manufacturer awarded a 10 percent discount and DC’s — where the mower was purchased — donated $500. The cemetery received $500 for trading in its 1996 mower.

The Legion has provided the cemetery mowers in the past and contributed toward construction of the current maintenance and storage building.

The cemetery, in honor of those who have served in the military, has provided space for a veterans memorial and 100 grave sites for veterans.

The Legion charitable gaming program includes the post, Willard’s Saloon & Eatery and, until recently, Triolo’s Restaurant & Lounge.
