Heritage House expanding in Pequot

Heritage House in Pequot Lakes broke ground Friday, May 17, on a new building with 20 suites, adding to its current 54-room facility.

Jane Pantzke, manager, said the senior living facility has a full-time chef, 24-hour nursing staff, a full-time RN on site and an activities coordinator.

The new building will have an up-north feel similar to the current buildings, and each suite will have its own refrigerator and bathroom.

Pantzke said the project has been five years in the making, and said Heritage House has had great community support. The building will be completed by January 2014, she said.

Grand Champion Meats now open in Crosslake

Grand Champion Meats opened Thursday, May 9, at the corner of County Road 66 and Swann Drive in Crosslake.

The store, one of two in Minnesota, carries fresh cuts, several varieties of bacon, more than 30 flavors of bratwurst, summer sausage and more.

Manager Greg Hicks said that the many flavors of bratwurst are perhaps the most popular items. Some flavors include pineapple, blue cheese, Philly steak and cheese and bacon cheddar Swiss.

Flavors of bacon include apple cinnamon, raspberry chipotle, pepper, thick cut hickory and the classic hickory smoked.

According to the store’s website, the original Grand Champion Meats, in Foley, was opened as Foley Locker in 1971. Hicks said fresh cuts are cut on-site in Crosslake, while sausages and other meats are delivered twice a week from the Foley store.
