Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center receives new accreditations

Posted: October 2, 2012 - 6:33pm

Imaging Services at Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center have received special recognition. The Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) recently awarded a three-year accreditation for both Nuclear Medicine and Nuclear Cardiology services.

Nuclear Medicine refers to imaging procedures that are used in a broad range of medical specialties - from pediatrics to cardiology to orthopedics - to safely diagnose and even treat disease. For example, the tests can include cardiac stress tests to analyze the heart, bone scans for orthopedic injuries and lung scans for blood clots.

Accreditation by the IAC means that Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s has undergone a thorough review of its programs and processes by a panel of experts. The IAC grants this designation only to those facilities that provide quality patient care in compliance with national standards.

“Through the accreditation process, we assessed every aspect of daily operation and its impact on the quality of health care provided to patients,” says Jani Wiebolt, President of Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center. “While completing the accreditation application, we revised protocols and validated our quality assurance program.”

This was the first time Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s had applied for the accreditation. The comprehensive application process included a detailed case study review.

“The accreditation is a ‘seal of approval’ that patients can rely on,” Wiebolt says. “It demonstrates the quality of our services and our commitment to patient care.”
