The Pine River-Backus School Board approved a two-year contract with Superintendent Cathy Bettino for a period of July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2016, during a special public meeting Monday, Dec. 9.
The contract includes a 3 percent salary increase in the first year and a 1 percent increase in the second year.
At its regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 17, the board presented the results of an evaluation of Bettino given during a closed session Nov. 18. Board chair Sandra Poferl said the cumulative score reflected that Bettino met expectations in all areas of evaluation.
Also Dec. 17, the board learned the teacher’s union is currently being offered a soft freeze on salaries, with an average salary benefits increase of $1,748 for the 2013-14 school year, and $1,178 for the 2014-15 school year.
