Adult Basic Education is for GED preparation

Posted: December 23, 2013 - 6:42pm

The Adult Basic Education program, often referred to as ABE, is designed to work with an adult at the level of the adult’s current knowledge.

The ABE program starts with a skills assessment and then offers instruction based on the learner’s educational and job needs. Most ABE participants are working to earn their General Education Development (GED) diploma. The ABE program prepares the adult learner to take the GED test.

Testing is done at a test center. There are five parts to the GED test: math, reading, writing, social studies and science. A learner must pass all five parts to earn a GED.

Tests can be split up; that is, learners can take a portion of the test on a test date or take the entire five-part test on one testing.

The GED is viewed as equivalent to a high school diploma for many uses: military entrance, admission to a college or employment eligibility.

The Pequot Lakes Community Education program operates the Adult Basic Education services in Pequot Lakes. Call 218–568-9200 to enroll in the Adult Basic Education program. Classes are free and arranged to fit your schedule.
