A Nisswa man died Friday morning, Dec. 20, in a two-vehicle, broadside collision in Royalton, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

Lucas A. Johnson, 23, was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Cody D. Husemoller, 20, Duluth.

The collision occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Husemoller was southbound on Highway 10 in Royalton when he swerved to avoid stopped traffic and slid into the oncoming lane of traffic, where his car was struck broadside on the passenger side by a van driven by Scott M. Geiger, 36, Sartell.

Johnson, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to St. Cloud Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Geiger suffered no apparent injuries. Husemoller suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an unnamed hospital.

The State Patrol said road conditions were wet at the time of the collision. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Department and the Motley Police Department assisted at the scene.
