Mississippi River pollution topic of Dec. 19 meeting

Posted: December 17, 2013 - 3:35pm

Do you ever wonder where and why we put conservation practices into place? The cities of Brainerd and Baxter have used new technology and science to predetermine what we do on the landscape, and where.

“This process has identified pollution hot spots and practices that can improve the health of the Mississippi River,” said Beth Hippert, Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District district technician.

Join Brainerd Area Environmental Learning Network (BAELN) from 3-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, in Brainerd to learn about cities’ findings and work along the Mississippi River.

BAELN events are free and open to public. BAELN meets from 3-4:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at the Crow Wing County Land Services Building.

This BAELN event is sponsored by Central Lakes College, Central Regional Sustainable Development Partnership, citizen representation, Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District, Initiative Foundation, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Transportation, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, The Nature Conservancy and University of Minnesota Extension.
