A winter storm warning remained in effect for Crow Wing and southern Cass counties Wednesday, Dec. 4, until midnight.

Snow may be heavy at times Wednesday afternoon with accumulation of 6-8 inches expected, according to the National Weather Service. That comes on top of the 5-7 inches of snow that fell Monday in the lakes area.

Light snow was predicted to continue Wednesday night with another inch of accumulation, and patchy blowing snow after midnight. Lows were expected at 2-7 degrees with northwest winds at 10-15 mph.

“People need to get the snow off their driveways and sidewalks as soon as possible. Once the cold comes in it’s going to turn into cement. It will be very hard to move,” said meteorologist Carol Christensen with the National Weather Service in Duluth.

Thursday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies in the morning becoming partly sunny with highs of 5-10 and west winds 10-15 mph. There may be scattered flurries in the morning.

Cold temperatures are expected to continue Thursday night and Friday with lows of 9-14 below zero and highs of just 3-8 degrees. Wind chill values are predicted at 20-30 below zero.

Lows Friday night through Saturday night are expected to be 14-19 below zero with highs at 3 below zero to 2 above.

The cold will continue into next week with highs of 5-10 Sunday, 2-7 Monday and 4 below to 1 above Tuesday. Lows are predicted at 1-6 below Sunday night, and 13-18 below Monday night.
