While mediation continues for the 2013-15 teachers’ contracts, the Pequot Lakes School Board on Monday, Nov. 18, approved a two-year contract with the School Service Employees Local 284.
The union voted to approve the 2013-15 contract Nov. 13.
The contract includes a 35-cent per hour raise both years, which amounts to $87,500 or just over a 4.8 percent increase in salary cost to the district over two years.
The contract increases the district’s contribution for health insurance $200, to $5,900 for single and $7,700 for family plans. Increased cost to the district is $7,000 to $9,000 annually.
Board member Kimberly Bolz-Andolshek praised those involved in the negotiation process, noting a tentative agreement was reached in just three hours.
Work toward a contract resolution with Education Minnesota Pequot Lakes continues, and parties were in mediation for most of the day Monday, Nov. 18.

In other personnel matters Monday, the board:
• Accepted the following staff resignations: Kristin McSherry-Neale, assistant varsity dance coach effective immediately; Jennifer Dingman, JV dance coach, effective immediately; Claudia Rardin, paraprofessional, effective Nov. 20; Lea St. Onge, business manager, effective Nov. 29; and Scott Willer, bus driver, effective Nov. 29.
• Approved the following staff contracts: Dawn Michel, Adult Basic Education instructor; Gary Welsh, bus driver; Kenneth Nelson, Kid Konnection paraprofessional; Allisa Speiker, assistant dance coach; Jayde Jensen and Emily Schroeder, co-JV dance coaches; Heather Pearson, head speech coach; Jon Kotaska, head baseball coach; and Rachel Schumer, assistant girls’ track coach.
• Accepted a leave request for Susan Bolton from Oct. 21 to approximately Dec. 16.
