Pequot Lakes Promoters seeks to unite groups to promote communities

Posted: November 12, 2013 - 6:27pm

More than a dozen people attended one of the first meetings of the Pequot Lakes Promoters last month at the Cole Memorial Building in Pequot Lakes, where the group developed the following mission statement:

“The mission of Pequot Promoters is to bring together various groups within Pequot Lakes and the surrounding communities in order to support area events, needs, and to promote participation.”

The group meets at 8 a.m. the second Monday of each month at the Cole Memorial Building. The next meeting will be Monday, Dec. 9.

At the October meeting, Pequot Lakes Mayor Nancy Adams gave an update on city parks; Jenna Crawford of the Pequot Lakes office of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber provided a chamber update; and Kimberly Ziesemer reported on Pequot Lakes Community Action events. Crawford said more than 15,000 visitors went through the information center doors in Pequot Lakes last summer. Chamber staff members are organizing the 2014 Governor’s Fishing Opener to be held in May on Gull Lake with Grand View Lodge as the event host. The community picnic will be in downtown Nisswa, but it is hoped that the event will involve Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point.

Ice Fest will be Jan. 4 with the chamber as the lead organizer.

Ziesemer said Community Action’s first fundraising effort will be Saturday, Nov. 16, at Pestello’s, featuring a casino night and music. The goal is to grow membership for the group and raise money for light post banners for Pequot Lakes.

Santa’s Bobbin’ Into Town will be Saturday, Dec. 14, with events starting at the Pequot Lakes Library at 2:30 p.m. and going on until 6 p.m., when the Light Up The Night Parade will begin. A bonfire will start at 3 p.m. with cocoa and cookies for sale by Miss Pequot Lakes and her group, and carriage rides throughout town. Participation in the parade is free.

Area youth hockey players will sell wreaths and garlands for fundraising. The Pequot Lakes Promoters encourage all businesses in Pequot Lakes to buy a wreath to hang on the front of their business to decorate the community for the holidays.
