Fire and smoke filled the Wurdeman Cabinet Company in Crosslake on Monday, Oct. 28, eventually destroying the one-story building.
Pequot Lakes Fire Capt. Mike Schwankl said when firefighters arrived, half of the roof had already collapsed. Schwankl said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” Schwankl said. “At this time we can’t tell where the fire started. We’re still working on it. The state fire marshal has been called in to investigate.”
Schwankl does not believe any foul play is involved in the fire.
The fire was reported at 12:18 p.m. and firefighters cleared the scene around 4:30 p.m. About 30 firefighters from Pequot Lakes, Fifty Lakes, Ideal and Mission assisted the Crosslake Fire Department on scene.
Crosslake Fire Chief Chip Lohmiller said responding to a fire call during daytime hours is tough since firefighters are at work.
However, firefighters all came together and worked well in extinguishing the fire, Lohmiller said.
