Jim Ballenthin and his Rolling Over Hunger campaign has raised $5,399 so far.
Ballenthin, of Backus, returned from his 23-day, 1,496-mile trip to and around Lake Superior on Sept. 25. Ballenthin said he did not experience any mechanical problems, the roads were nice (except for sections of Highway 61 south of Grand Marais) and the weather was better than he could have expected. He also met a lot of courteous drivers along the way.
“People were just excellent. The exceptions were so minor it was not worth mentioning,” Ballenthin said.
Ballenthin’s greatest inconveniences were bicycle-related soreness and one stretch of rain.
He rode for this campaign to raise funds for Pine River, Longville and Hackensack food shelves. Donations will be accepted through October.
