This year’s Heritage Days Rendezvous Encampment on Sept. 6-8 will be held in Pine River’s Forbes Park instead of its usual location next to the Depot.
Event organizers decided to relocate the event for ambiance. The wooded park is expected to lend a more spaced out, wild feel to the encampment, and the shade of the trees should provide comfortable temperatures for campers.
Visitors to the event can expect to find activities including tomahawk throwing, primitive fire starting techniques and campfire cooking, among others. There will also be displays of types of early tools and crafts that may have existed in the Minnesota fur trade era from 1784 through 1803.
The event is open to visitors. For period campers and recreators there is free camping. For all other visitors there will be a lot to see.
