East Gull Lake Continues discussion on conditional use permit

Posted: September 3, 2013 - 6:08pm

Following the July 2 approval of a conditional use permit for B-Dirt construction for a multi-family development duplex in East Gull Lake, area residents attended the Aug. 6 city council meeting to express their desire to prevent the development of duplex rentals in the area, according to draft meeting minutes.

Planning Commission Chair Bruce Buxton said the residents’ concerns were alleviated by the conditions within the CUP.

Due to a moratorium, no other duplexes can be built locally, though the First Addition to Ruth Lake Estates, by B-Dirt, was exempt from the moratorium because the permit for the development was submitted before the moratorium was adopted.

In related news, the council gave authority to the Wastewater Committee to create a plan to connect the Ruth Lake Estates addition to city sewer if Joe Ranweiler of B-Dirt signed a petition to connect to city wastewater.

In other business the city:

• Approved a conditional use permit for Steve and Janell Madison to construct a property boundary line fence exceeding a height of 60 inches.

• Read a letter by Kevin Mullen asking about improvements to drainage in a lot within the city. Water draining from one lot through a drain tile has been pooling on a second lot. Mullen wanted to know if the lot could be excavated to improve drainage.

Mayor Dave Kavanaugh noted that the issue had been discussed at a Road Committee meeting, where the committee agreed to correct the issue.
