Jessica Hanneken of Pine River, Joessa Geissen of Pequot Lakes and Sami McGuire of Backus participated in the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in Rock Springs, Wyo., July 14-20, and the results are in.
Hanneken placed 21st in the National High School Rodeo Queen pageant competition. She and her partner failed to place in team roping.
Giesen was ranked 42nd in the competition’s average standings for barrel racing, but could not be reached for comment. McGuire was not listed on the NHSFR results lists, and could not be reached for comment. McGuire’s team roping partner, Gannon Gustafson, ranked 16th in average standing for boy’s cutting.
Hanneken said the queen pageant was much bigger than the state level competition. She plans to enter the competition again next year, and will use what she learned this year to her advantage. She said her greatest improvement would be in modeling.
“I’ve never been that graceful, so I could probably improve on that,” Hanneken said.
Hanneken also competes in barrel racing, breakaway roping and team roping. She went to nationals for team roping and the pageant.
