Shirley Frederick from Hackensack Unit 202 was elected American Legion Auxiliary president for Minnesota at its 95th state convention in Mahnomen on July 18-20.

Frederick has been an auxiliary member for 50 years and has held many chairmanships in the unit, District 6 and Department of Minnesota level.

To celebrate this tribute, the Hackensack American Legion Auxiliary held a reception for Frederick at Post 202 on July 21. A ceremony included introduction of past unit presidents, presentation by past President Sandy Secora, congratulations from Post 202 1st Vice President Richard Buche, Post 202 SAL Commander Jeff Peterson, Backus Unit Auxiliary President Jean Dawson, sister-in-law Barb Frederick and Pastor Judy Gustafson of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

After Frederick greeted those who attended, President Bev Sauer presented her with a gift from Unit 202.

Frederick is active in her church, works part time for the chamber of commerce and is dedicated in service to benefit all programs of the American Legion Auxiliary, the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization.
