The Jenkins City Council approved the purchase of a new truck for the city during a meeting on Monday, July 8. The truck to be purchased, if available through Midway Ford Company in Roseville, will cost $25,981.70. Another approved purchase through Crysteel Truck Equipment was a Boss V-plow, which will cost $5,717.82 after installation. The current snowplow owned by the city would not be compatible with the truck the council wishes to purchase.
“As much as I hate to spend this much money, I think we are doing the proper thing in the long run,” said council member Gary Brown.
The current truck has cost the city $5,700 in repairs and towing since the fall of 2010. The city council is entertaining closed bids for the 1994 Ford F-350 truck. Those interested are asked to contact Krista Okerman, City Clerk.
In other business July 8, the council:
• Agreed to check the current easements on the surrounding roads near McCoy acres, while also allowing City attorney Tom Pearson contact the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness church over easements to determine what course of action to take in regards to gas and power when reconstructing roads.
• Approved $8,000 for the park and recreation committee to purchase new playground equipment for Veterans Park and a dog waste station. The council also approved a policy of a $50 deposit for those wishing to reserve a picnic table in the park.
