Family members found a 3-year-old boy unresponsive Monday evening, June 10, in the water of Lake Edna in Nisswa, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities received a call around 6:30 p.m. that night, the department stated, and efforts to revive the child were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown how the child ended up in the water. By phone, Sgt. Scott Goddard with the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department said the department is waiting on coroner’s reports and is not speculating or giving statements on what led up to the incident, but foul play is not suspected.
Names and other information is not being released until the family has time to notify next of kin. Goddard said the family will be given as much time as they need before the department releases more information.
Goddard said authorities were at the residence, which he believed was year-round, within minutes of the call.
In addition to the sheriff’s department, the Nisswa Police, North Ambulance, area first responders, Nisswa Fire Department and Lakes Area Chaplaincy responded to the scene.
