The public is reminded that the Whitefish Area Property Owners Association (WAPOA) annual meeting will be Saturday, June 8, at Ideal Town Hall, located along County Road 16 west of Crosslake.
Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for viewing of vendor displays, with a free breakfast to begin at 8 a.m. The meeting will conclude by 10:30 a.m.
The annual business meeting will be followed by this year’s keynote speaker, Paul Radomski, research scientist with the DNR’s Brainerd office. For more than 25 years he has worked on shoreland development management issues and has published extensively on ecological and conservation matters.
Radomski was the project manager/lead scientist for the Sensitive Lakeshore Studies being done on large lakes in central Minnesota, and he will provide a summary of the study of the Whitefish Chain, published in 2012.
There will be a discussion of specifics that property owners should consider to preserve the shoreline habitat and actions all should take to ensure the lakes remain viable for future generations. A few board directors will give brief reports to let people know ways WAPOA is working in areas such as shoreland restoration and battling the spread of aquatic invasive species.
