School board discusses appointment of agent of record

Posted: June 4, 2013 - 5:55pm

The Pequot Lakes School Board held a special meeting Monday night, June 3, to discuss appointing an agent of record for the district in order to save on insurance costs.

The board had brought up at past meetings that it could be able to save money by using an agent of record to provide both property/liability insurance and workers compensation.

Superintendent Rick Linnell told the board that he and the district’s business manager, Lea St. Onge, had interviewed five candidates. Linnell recommended the board use Weizenegger Engle as the district’s agent of record.

Board Chair Valarie Wallin took issue with the recommendation. The board had hoped to use RAM Mutual Insurance Company for workers compensation, and she questioned whether Weizenegger Engle was able to properly provide those services.

Wallin said that due to some communication between the district and Weizenegger Engle, she also questioned whether the agent had the district’s best interest in mind.

Linnell said the board could choose another agent of record, but said that they may not be happy with their options because the agent may not be local.

The board decided to table the matter until its next meeting on June 17.

In other business Monday, the board:
